What counts when you're just starting

Without annual accounts, a lender looks at other signs that you can pay your instalments.

  • Experience in your trade. A plumber with ten years as an employee is a lower risk than someone without experience.
  • Jobs. A contract or order confirmation carries a lot of weight.
  • Revenue so far. Bank statements from your business account.
  • Your own contribution. A down payment or trade-in car lowers the risk.

How to improve your chances

  1. Choose a car that fits your revenue. A young used car is often smarter than new.
  2. Make sure your business account is separate from your private finances.
  3. Consider a small down payment or a higher balloon payment.
  4. Submit a complete file. That speeds up the assessment.

How much can you borrow as a starter?

As a starter with no track record, lenders set the bar a bit higher. Expect an interest rate of about 9 to 12% and sometimes a down payment of 10 to 20%. A van of around € 25.000 to € 35.000 gives you the best chance.

What helps with a starter application?

  • A client or contract. Shows where your revenue comes from.
  • Experience as an employee in the same trade.
  • A down payment or trade-in. That lowers the risk for the lender.
  • A clean BKR record. A running loan is no problem, arrears are. Financial lease and BKR.
  • A business account with your first income.

Review again after a year

Once you have your first annual accounts after a year, you can sometimes refinance at a lower rate. Early repayment is usually possible for a small fee. Early repayment.

From application to keys

  1. Application (2 minutes). Enter your business, your contact details and the vehicle. Haven't chosen a car yet? You can add it later.
  2. Proposal. We submit your application to the lender that best suits your situation and send you a proposal with the interest rate, monthly instalment and balloon payment.
  3. Documents. Usually an ID, a KvK extract and a few bank statements. You upload them securely on your personal status page.
  4. Sign digitally. Once approved, you sign the contract online.
  5. Payout and collection. The lender pays the seller directly. You collect the car.

Frequently asked questions

After how many months with the KvK can I lease?

Some lenders accept starters from day one, provided you can show experience and jobs. The longer you've been in business, the better the terms.

Is the interest rate higher for starters?

Usually yes, because the risk for the lender is higher. After a few years you may be able to refinance at a lower rate.
